Andrea Kumara, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of experience supporting children, teens, adults, caregivers, and families across a variety of settings, including youth shelters, intensive family preservation programs, juvenile justice, foster care, a specialized child Medi-Cal clinic, and Kaiser Permanente’s Behavioral Health services. She has also worked with senior citizens in nursing homes and at Kaiser. Andrea uses a client-centered approach, drawing on a variety of evidence-based and eclectic treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, collaborative problem solving, art therapy techniques, play therapy, and The Incredible Years parenting program, which she has facilitated for over 20 years. Andrea is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and parents/caregivers, believing it’s never too late to create change. Through teaching The Incredible Years parenting system, she has witnessed the power of collaborating with parents and caregivers to create positive change for children and entire family systems. Her communication style is positive, personable, non-judgmental, and infused with a good sense of humor, helping children and teens feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to work on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys cooking, travel, drawing and painting, spending time with family and friends, and giving quality time to her dogs.
