Erika Hishiro, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist with specialized training in early childhood mental health and a strong foundation in evidence-based practices. With a passion for supporting children, youth, and their families, Erika brings a developmentally informed and trauma-sensitive lens to her work, shaped by advanced training in modalities such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics. She is also a Phase I-trained provider in the Neurosequential Model and a certified Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) Facilitator.
Erika began her clinical journey as a school-based counselor for adolescents and quickly developed a deep interest in early intervention. She went on to serve as a mental health therapist in a Birth to Five program, providing direct services to infants, toddlers, and their caregivers. Through the Napa Infant-Parent Mental Health Fellowship, she received extensive training in early childhood mental health and infant-parent psychotherapy. Erika has also served as a preschool mental health consultant, offering reflective consultation to educators and supporting caregiver-child relationships in the classroom setting. Her work has consistently centered around families navigating complex challenges such as homelessness, substance use, trauma, grief, and systemic stressors.
Influenced by the work of Dr. Berry Brazelton and Dr. Bruce Perry, Erika believes deeply in the power of relationships and reflection to support healing and resilience. Her therapeutic approach honors each caregiver as the expert on their child, and she strives to create collaborative, trusting partnerships with families. She values curiosity, transparency, and playfulness in her work, always aiming to meet families with empathy, respect, and authenticity.
Erika earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a strong emphasis on evidence-based treatment. She continues to pursue advanced training to expand her clinical toolkit and is especially interested in certifications in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and ACT to further strengthen her ability to serve families with integrity and confidence.
Outside of work, Erika enjoys cooking, arts and crafts, spending time with her dog, and treating herself to cupcakes, boba, and other sweet treats. She brings warmth, dedication, and a heartfelt commitment to every family she supports.
