Mackenna Dixon, LCSW has spent the past five years working with children, adolescents, caregivers, and families across a variety of environments, including county mental health, foster and adoption agencies, 24-hour crisis lines, and schools. This diverse experience has helped her become highly attuned to the needs of her clients. From school social work to community mental health and preschool consulting, she has focused on building confidence in those she partners with. Her clinical specialties include trauma-focused screening, assessment, and treatment, with advanced expertise in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy using a somatic approach. Given the uniqueness of each child and family, she tailors her treatments and maintains flexibility by drawing on motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, somatic exercises, and behavioral activation. Mackenna’s therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that caregivers know their child best, and she serves to help “translate” communication difficulties, power dynamics, and mind-body disconnection. Leading with a somatic focus, she supports children, adolescents, and caregivers in learning to listen to the signals their bodies are sending. She works closely with each client to cultivate a partnership that is fun, flexible, authentic, educational, and compassionate. Utilizing techniques like role play, dancing, and stretching, she helps clients build confidence and new neural pathways. Through this therapeutic relationship, she collaborates with families to identify strengths, concerns, and needs, setting treatment goals and applying evidence-based strategies to foster lasting change and growth. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her pets—Harley, Ember, and Bandit—and supporting her neurodivergent family members. When not at home, she can often be found at the gym or exploring a nearby body of water.
