+ What does it mean to be fully virtual?

We are embracing digital and do not have brick and mortar clinics. By leveraging the power of digital, we make it easy for parents to get the highest quality of care for their children.

+ Can I use this service from any state?

Right now, we’re available in select states, and working to expand nationwide as quickly as we can. Telemedicine makes it possible for our providers in these states to see families anywhere in the state. More to come as we grow and expand.

+ What if I can't attend an appointment?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide us with advanced notice. Cancelling or rescheduling within 24 hours of your appointment will incur a charge of 100% of the full appointment cost. Cancelling or rescheduling prior to that time can be done at no cost. Missing an appointment will also incur a charge of 100% of the full appointment cost. Please let us know if there is an extenuating circumstance preventing you from being able to keep your appointment (i.e. illness, death in the family, etc.) so that we can respond accordingly.

If you have any questions, please email help@littleotterhealth.com.

+ Why is it important for families to have an option like Little Otter?

  • 1 out of 5 children has an impairing mental health disorder.
  • 71% of the counties in the U.S. don’t have a child psychiatrist.
  • The average wait time to get an appointment with a child mental health provider is 2 months
  • Only 20% of children who need help ever receive care.

A year is a long time in a child’s life. Today, it is not uncommon for a child who needs mental health care to wait for 6 months or more to get care (and often much longer to get the right care). Think of a four-year-old child who must wait 6 months for help: that is an 1/8th of that child’s whole life! Early childhood is also a critical developmental period when the foundation of brain health and mental health are set. Early experiences shape the very architecture of the brain in young children. From 0-3 years old, a child’s brain is producing more than a million neural connects every second! At Little Otter, we have developed Little Otter care to support children’s mental health (and brain health), identify challenges as early as possible so that we can provide measurement-based care that works.

+ What are the differences in care leads, parenting specialists, therapists, and psychiatrists?

Care Leads guide families into Little Otter’s care model, assemble care teams, and coordinate the work of the care team and families as their primary point of contact. Care leads take the burden off the family and advocate for the right type of care.

Parenting Specialists develop and execute family action plans with a focus on day-to-day challenges and accessible parenting strategies

Therapists provide evidence-based psychotherapy to children and families with a focus on the best treatment modalities for the child, including individual adult or child therapy, couples therapy, or family therapy. We would only suggest couples therapy or adult therapy if we believed it was the suggested path to improving the child and family mental health.

Psychiatrists specialize in the medical diagnosis and treatment of individuals in the family system, engaging in medication management and medical evaluation.

+ What is your payment policy?

The credit card on file will be charged 23hrs prior to your session to align with Little Otter’s 24hr cancellation policy. If the credit card is declined, we will contact you directly to coordinate an alternate method of payment. Please note, if there is an outstanding balance on your account, your care may be interrupted or terminated until the outstanding balance is paid in full.
