We recently received a question from a parent asking about Little Otter’s ADHD-related care. Below is the question, and a response from our child mental health experts:

“Do you guys diagnose ADHD in children and prescribe stimulant medication?”

- A., California

Thank you contacting Little Otter!

We do provide evaluation services for ADHD and common child mental health concerns.

Our mental health assessments typically consist of 2-3 sessions during which we complete an interview with you or another caregiver and your child. We will also ask you to fill out some standardized forms and reports that allow us to compare the level of symptoms or concerns your child is experiencing to other children their age.

In addition to assessment, we offer a team-based approach to care, including therapy, parenting support, and medication management.

In general, research most rigorously supports taking a combined approach to treating ADHD. This includes teaching behavioral strategies (through therapy or parent coaching) in conjunction with medication management (stimulant or non-stimulant options depend on specific concerns and the child).

As a reminder, if you are located in NC, FL, CO, TX, VA, or CA, Little Otter is available to provide consultation, evaluation, and/or treatment services.
